Fodder for pharmacists: New Chest guidelines making waves

KEY POINT

New guidelines on antithrombotic and thrombolytic therapy from the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) provide expanded information on deep-vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism management. Of interest to pharmacists are new guidelines on the administration of dabigatran (Pradaxa—Boehringer Ingelheim) and ticagrelor (Brilinta—AstraZeneca), new recommendations on frequency of warfarin monitoring, decreased use of anticoagulation in nonsurgical patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE), and the question of aspirin use for the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in adults over 50 years old.
