L-Arginine Fails in Type 1 Diabetes

KEY POINT

While animal studies have indicated a potential role for L-arginine in improving endothelial function in diabetes, a just-published study shows that it provides no benefit in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Atorvastatin (Lipitor—Pfizer) improved endothelial function, but L-arginine supplementation may in fact interfere with the benefits of statin therapy.
