New data add to muddy waters surrounding clopidogrel–PPI interaction

KEY POINT

Patients who took clopidogrel and aspirin in combination with a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) had a higher risk of myocardial infarction or all-cause mortality than those not exposed to a PPI, according to a recent study. However, the investigators’ analysis of study results and comparisons within patients did not support a causal link for this effect.
