Newer oral anticoagulants superior to warfarin in atrial fibrillation

KEY POINT

According to a recent analysis, newer oral anticoagulants are superior to warfarin for preventing strokes, intracranial bleeds, and death in patients with atrial fibrillation. The risk of major bleeds is similar to that seen with warfarin, but gastrointestinal bleeding occurs in more patients on the newer agents.
