CDC: Intranasal vaccine preferred over flu shot in younger children

KEY POINT

CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP) recently voted to preferentially recommend the intranasal live-attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) in children aged 2 years to 8 years when it is available. Committee members stressed that vaccination should not be delayed to await LAIV when injectable inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV) is available.
