Dueling articles debate necessity of influenza vaccination


The author of two commentaries argued that influenza is not a public health threat, vaccination is not effective and possibly unsafe, and current immunization recommendations are inaccurate. In stark contrast, a cohort study added to the evidence base for influenza vaccination, finding that vaccination averted nearly 6 million medically-attended influenza cases and more than 100,000 influenza-related hospitalizations during a 6-year period.
