Experts provide guidance on applying 2013 ACC/AHA lipid guidelines

KEY POINT

In two commentaries recently published in Annals of Internal Medicine, experts highlighted areas of controversy in revised lipid guidelines from the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA). Authors provided insight on contentious guideline recommendations such as adoption of a new risk calculator, lowering of statin treatment thresholds, and the abandonment of lipid goals.
