Otitis Media with Effusion: Researchers Looking at Reflux

KEY POINT

Is it possible that otitis media with effusion (“glue ear”) might be caused by reflux of gastric juice through the eustachian tubes, causing inflammation that sets the child up for chronic problems? That idea, first floated in the mid- 1990s, is supported by findings in a just-published research paper.
