St. John’s Wort Fails to Improve Depression in Major Trial

KEY POINT

St. John’s wort extract did not significantly improve depressive symptoms in the first large-scale, multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled trial in participants with major depressive disorder conducted in the United States. Consumers should consider consulting licensed health care providers before using St. John’s wort as it may have limited value in the treatment of more serious forms of depression.
