Long-Acting Beta-Agonists: Numerous Beneficial Effects in COPD

KEY POINT

While generally thought of only as sympathomimetic agents, long-acting β2-adrenergic agonists (LABAs) improve breathing and pulmonary function in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in several ways. These agents have qualitatively different effects than short-acting β2-adrenergic agonists and may offer utility as first-line agents for COPD.
