Early rheumatoid arthritis: New data on optimal treatment approach

KEY POINT

Results of the OPTIMA trial suggest that a reasonable treatment strategy for patients with early rheumatoid arthritis (RA) would be to induce stable, low disease activity with 26 weeks of treatment with a biologic plus methotrexate (MTX) and then withdraw the biologic agent and continue long-term MTX monotherapy.
