New guideline for perioperative management of antirheumatic drugs

The American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) released a new guideline on the perioperative management of antirheumatic medications in patients with rheumatic diseases who are undergoing elective total hip or total knee arthroplasty (THA, TKA). The guideline includes recommendations on when to continue, withdraw, and restart medications based on a balance between the increased risk of infection added by the medications compared with the risk of disease flare when medications are withdrawn.
